Why did you choose to do your course?
Because it had a wide range of subjects, it made me more aware of what would suit me best.
What was the best part of your course?
When we went on summer placement, it was hands on, you were able to put the theory into practice.
What did you like least?
Probably because of the economy, we thought we would be going on field trips like Germany, but it didn’t happen due to the economy.
Did any of the subjects you studied for your Leaving Cert help with your course?
Yes, Home Economics, for kitchen production, business studies was also good.
What was the best thing about your college?
I was quite shy and I have now gained more confidence while in college and now have lots of new friends.
What interests or skills do you think are needed for this course?
Communication skills, good customer care skills, interest in dealing with people, good general interest in the Tourism Hospitality Industry.
What do you see yourself moving onto now?
I am working in Front Office at Bewley’s Hotel, Newlands Cross, this year I am making time for me and hope to go back to college next year to DIT to do Hospitality Management.
Would you recommend this course to others and why?
Yes, it gives you an insight to the different departments, good for people who aren’t sure what department they want to work in.
What advice would you give somebody considering taking your course?
Probably, when you are given work do it, go to college every day, get involved in everything, participate in class you get more out of it that way.
What subjects did you study as part of your course?
Front Office, Tourism, HR, Computers, Spanish, Food & Beverage, Business Studies, Marketing, Kitchen Production.
How useful are they in the real world?
If you want to work in a hotel very useful, gives you a good understanding all round and you get to see how other departments work.
