This area covers any roles that support to the tourism industry. It includes the areas of marketing, information communication technology (ICT), customer service, accountancy, economics, research, finance, teaching, lecturing and many more
The Workplace:
Includes working government bodies like Fáilte Ireland, Tourism Ireland, Department of Arts, Sports & Tourism; education and training bodies like the Institutes of Technology, further education colleges, retail operations like Kilkenny Design Centre. You could be involved directly working for example in the accounts department or ICT department in a hotel, in the airport shops, ticket offices or lecturing to students in 3rd level colleges.
As this area is so broad there are numerous ways of getting into it. Generally people working in this area have some kind of 3rd level education with tourism. A second foreign language is always good to have in a Tourism role, whether you work here or abroad. People who work in Tourism related services are usually good communicators and like dealing with people.
