Breid has just graduated from Higher Certificate in Arts- Culinary Arts in Killbegs. This is what she says about it:
I was mad about college – Killybegs is great because it’s really small and everyone knew each other in the class and everyone was really interested in what we were learning. The best thing about it was that the lecturers are very student oriented – we had two and they’re nearly my best friends! I recently took part in the Euroskills competition and when I was there and I needed a recipe, the first person I rang was one of my lecturers. I suppose the support from the lecturers really pushes you on. I’d recommend anyone to go there.”
Breid competed in the Euroskills competition in September 2008 and won a silver medal.
It was the best competition I ever did. There were 12 competitors and I was the only girl. I nearly died on the first day! Then I said – I’m going to give these boys a run for their money! When they gave me the silver medal I couldn’t believe it – if you gave me a million euro I couldn’t have been more surprised. Competitions were something I never thought I could do, then I started, and you get the hang of it! After that I went on to the Culinary Olympics.
Breid started working as Senior Chef de Partie in a restaurant in Drogheda in October 2008. Her plan is to gain experience there over the next six months and then she hopes to return to Dublin to train full-time for the World Skills Competition."
