Event Management students organise a ‘Green’ Fashion Show

Event Fashion Show Winning Dress

R3 Green Fashion Show "Support Trash Fashion" competition was organised by the Event Management class at Stillorgan College of Further Education. The event took place in the Shelbourne Suite at the Stillorgan Park Hotel on Thursday 26th March 2009.

The aim of the show was to give the students a working knowledge of what Event Management entails by experiencing it first hand. The students organised the entire event, including finding all of the sponsorship and ensuring that money was raised for their charity of choice.

The entrants to the competition were invited to design and make creations consisting of recyclable materials. The winning entrant was Katie Ryan; a sixth year student at Newpark Comprehensive School. Katie designed a dress entitled Fare Frocks which was made from 436 used bus tickets. Katie’s design was judged to be the best out of 21 entrants.  Katie took home the €500, prize. The dress was modelled by Alison O’Keeffe.

The M.C. for the show was Shona Ryan, from Spin 1038 Radio. The judges were Fionnuala Bourke (Fashion Designer of MTV's "Project
Catwalk"), Lynn Kelly (Miss Universe Ireland), and Emily O'Donnell (Fashion Stylist, Airwave Boutique, Stillorgan Shopping Centre.)

The event, which was sponsored by Panda Waste (the waste management company) and Ecocem who manufacture environmental friendly cement, attracted entrants from all over Dublin and Louth.

The competition was successful in raising €1,700 in funds for the college’s designated charity the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
