Failte Ireland have this week launched a new    Picktourism.ie magazine, a publication which is aimed at raising student’s awareness of the variety of careers available in the tourism sector.  The magazine is designed specifically for second level students, and provides an insight into the tourism industry.

The magazine, in conjunction with our interactive website www.picktourism.ie, will provide tourism students with a comprehensive guide to all tourism and hospitality courses in Ireland and also provides a course search facility. The magazine profiles a number of hospitality graduates who are now working in areas such as adventure tourism, and working with the Munster team in Thomand Park.

Sean O’Malley, Failte Ireland Education Operations Manager says:

“The aim of the magazine is to emphasise the huge variety of courses available to students interested in the tourism industry.  Not only are there courses on ‘old reliables’ such as Bar Skills, but also on adventure and activity – reflecting tourism as a career which has many possibilities.  A career in tourism may be in a hotel or may be in a restaurant, but it also could be in adventure tourism, such as surfing or arts and events, among others.  We believe that this magazine highlights the ever increasing options for students in the tourism industry.”

Picktourism.ie magazine will be distributed to students at a number of large career events around the country and to guidance counsellors in schools. A webversion of the magazine is available here.  Copies are also available from the People in Tourism Centre 1850 256 256 or  email us  if you would like to receive a copy.
