UPDATE ON STUDENT APPLICATIONS FOR INTAKE 2010/2011
Fáilte Ireland and the Institutes of Technology (IOT’S) have put in place an agreed new policy and strategy in relation to the provision of Hospitality and Tourism Programmes in the IOT system

The following new Higher Education (Level 6) programmes have been recently validated as:
| Higher Certificate in Arts–Culinary Arts |

| Higher Certificate in Arts - Hospitality Studies |
(2 year) |
| Higher Certificate in Business -Tourism |
(2 year) |
| Higher Certificate in Arts - Bar Supervision |
(2 year) |
Admissions to these programmes, for September 2010, will be through the CAO system.
The programmes above will replace the following Further Education (Level 6) Programmes:

Fáilte Ireland will continue to pay tuition and capitation fees for the Higher Certificate programmes.
Fáilte Ireland and the Institutes of Technology (IOT’S)* have a new policy and strategy in relation to the provision of Hospitality and Tourism Programmes in the Institutes of Technology.
The following Failte Ireland direct entry programmes have now been replaced:
Advanced Certificate in Professional Cookery (2 year)
Advanced Certificate in Tourism Hospitality Studies (2 year)
Advanced Certificate in Tourism with Business (2 year)
Certificate in Bar Operations (1 year)
The new Higher Education (Level 6) programmes are as follows:
Higher Certificate in Arts–Culinary Arts (2 year)
Higher Certificate in Arts - Hospitality Studies (2 year)
Higher Certificate in Business -Tourism (2 year)
Higher Certificate in Arts - Bar Supervision (2 year)

FAILTE IRELAND WILL CONTINUE TO PAY TUITION AND CAPITATION FOR THE NEW PROGRAMMES.
Minimum Entry Requirements:
• 5 Leaving Certificate Ordinary D3’s or an equivalent qualification (English must be included in the subjects passed - Maths is not required)
• FETAC Level 5 in any discipline
• RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) will be considered where applicants can demonstrate sufficient learning gained in a relevant work-based context
• The Leaving Certificate Applied programme does not meet minimum entry requirements. However, learners with a post qualification level 5 award or with appropriate work based learning are eligible to apply
• Mature applicants must be 23 yrs by 1st of January on year of application
• Applications for the current Earn and Learn programmes will continue to be administered by the relevant the IOT’s.
These new programmes are intended to:
• Facilitate more coherent Access, Transfer and Progression opportunities in line with National Framework of Qualifications
• Provide a single entry mechanism, through the CAO, in line with other programmes in the IOTs
• Enable eligible students to access higher education grant schemes
• Meet the needs of industry by maintaining an enhancing strong skill based features within the programmes.
*This agreement applies to the following Institutes of Technology:
Athlone, Cork, Dundalk, Galway Mayo, Letterkenny, Limerick, Tallaght, Tralee, Waterford. Details of arrangements with DIT will follow as soon as they become available.
