Did you know?
Tourism is Ireland’s largest home-grown industry, employing almost 250,000 people?
What is Tourism?
It’s forty shades of green. It’s leprechauns. It's the Norman glory of Bunratty. It’s a load of Blarney. It’s shamrocks. It’s the puck fair, the Rose of Tralee. It’s bogland. It’s debates about Guinness, Murphy’s and Beamish. It’s the rebels, the sheepstealers, the tribesmen and the kingdom. It’s golfing. It’s cliffs and beaches. It’s horseracing. It’s ballads and sean-nós. It's the Volvo Ocean Race. It's Oxegen, Electric Picnic. It's the Cat Laughs.
It’s craic. It’s cead mile fáilte. It’s magical....It’s us.
Tourists: Who are they?
Tourists may come from other parts of Ireland or from Europe, from America, from all over the world. They explore. They wander. They hike, golf, surf and shop. They trace their Irish ancestry. They eat mussels at fine restaurants and scones at cafés. They stay at hotels, bed and breakfasts, hostels and campsites. And they spend approximately €6 billion here every year.
